HEAD POSITIONING SYSTEM OF MASS STORAGE DEVICES WITH PRISMATIC JOINTS. PART I - MATHEMATICAL MODEL

Summary. In the paper the mathematical model of a head positioning system of mass storage devices, the so-called hard disk drives, is presented. The branched kinematic chain has been proposed; in this chain besides rotating joints there are also prismatic joints. The proposed construction allows for compensation of the so-called head skew and flight height control of heads above the media disk surface.

FUZZY CONTROLLER IN ACTIVE POWER FILTER CONTROL SYSTEM

Summary. The paper presents possibility of application of a fuzzy logic controller instead of a DC voltage classical regulator to the APF active power filter control system. There are given simulation and experimental results. It has been proved that use of the fuzzy logic controller improves the dynamic parameters of the control system.

THE APPLICATION OF FEMM PROGRAM FOR NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD OF RECTANGLE WIRES SECTIONS IN LONG IRON PIPES HEARDENING PROCESS

Summary. The paper contains the computation and simulation results of the electromagnetic field of rectangle wires being the component part of the induction hardening system. The Femm 4.2. program was used for simulations. It is a very helpful tool for analysis of the electromagnetic field when taking into account the skin and proximity effect. This program allows calculating such parameters as, for instance, the wire impedance. The calculations of the electromagnetic field and impedance were carried out by the finite element method. The numerical simulations were performed for the frequency equal to 5kHz and 10kHz.

DESIGN OF SURVEILLANCE QUADROCOPTER

Summary. The paper presents brief foredesign of a surveillance quadrocopter. The project is realized as a master thesis of Mr. Piotr Skałowski, a student of the Faculty of Mechatronics of the Warsaw University of Technology. There are described the basics of a quadruple structure of the rotorcraft as well as the idea of steering and signal processing.

IDEA OF A JOINT ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC METHOD APPLIED TO DIAGNOSE OF HIGH VOLTAGE POWER TRANSFORMERS BASED ON MEASUREMENTS OF PARTIAL DISCHARGES

Summary. The aim of the paper is to inform that at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice the work on the so-called joint electro-acoustic method applied to diagnosis of power transformers has been started. It has been assumed that this method is to consist in simultaneous measurements of partial discharges within a transformer made by means of the electrical and acoustic emission method and – indirectly – by means of the DGA method, and simultaneous analysis of the obtained results. The present state of knowledge on how measurements of partial discharges can be used, particularly at the mother unit, is presented. The paper title signals that this is only an idea of such a method which – after its full documentation – should be applied to practical diagnosis of high voltage oil power transformers during their operation.

MEASUREMENT METHODS FOR ARTIFICIAL HEART DIAGNOSTICS

Summary. Methods for pressure measurement to be used in the POLVAD artificial heart prostheses are described in this paper. The mechanical prostheses used for heart support are developed by the Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development in Zabrze. Their main purpose is to aid the heart muscle recovery of patients with cardiac problems. Use of the POLVAD prosthesis speeds up the healing process. The paper covers the recent research into the possible pressure sensing methods for use in the noninvasive blood pressure measurement in required places around the prosthesis. The main requirement for the developed methods is lack of contact with blood to avoid the destruction of blood elements and minimise influence on the blood flow. Two sensing methods are presented: one based on a fiber pressure sensor, the other on piezoelectric pressure measurements. The preliminary results are included, and choice of the best method for future development is pointed out.

MODELING OF THE HUMAN GREATER CIRCULATORY SYSTEM AS AN ELECTRIC EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT

Summary. The paper presents numerical research of the human greater circulatory system modelled as an electric circuit. The similarities between the human greater circulation and the electric model are described. The results obtained from the electrical circuit are compared with those got from investigations of the physical model of the human circulatory system.

OPTIMIZATION OF THE GRATING COUPLER FOR INTEGRATED OPTICS APPLICATIONS

Summary. The paper presents numerical analysis of integrated optics devices, especially an I/O system, based on planar grating couplers and planar waveguide. It was assumed that the waveguide layer was made of material possessing the very high light refractive index nw=2. The grating couplers of grate periods  were analysed as periodic light refractive index disturbance in the waveguide layer. The main goal of research was to verify the influence of grating coupler period depth on effectiveness of the coupling optical power in and out of the waveguide structure. The numerical investigations were carried out with use of the FDTD method (Finite Difference Time Domain method).

APPLICATION OF ADP, ADC AND ADNC DESCRIPTORS TO ANALYSIS OF ACOUSTIC EMISSION SIGNALS MEASURED WITHIN OIL TRANSFORMERS

Summary. The investigation results of acoustic emission (AE) signals measured within three oil transformers are presented in the paper. Descriptors ADP, ADC and ADNC calculated from the amplitude distributions of AE signals have been used for analysis of these signals. The methodology which makes analysis and identification of AE signals generated by partial discharges easier is presented. The analysis results are compared with those obtained from other measuring methods (electric and DGA ones).

UNCERTAINTY OF A SINGLE MEASUREMENT PERFORMED BY A DIGITAL INSTRUMENT

Summary. The paper describes a procedure of uncertainty calculation of a single measurement result performed by a digital instrument. Formalization of this procedure is derived from the analysis of a quantization process which is the basis of a digital measuring instrument activity. Considerations are illustrated with an example in which a dual-slope AD converter has been analysed. Influence of the described formalization on the number of significant digits of the single measurement result written in an interval form is discussed.

Summary. In the paper stability analysis of nonlinear analog third order phase-locked loop with the second order of Cauer lowpass filter has been presented. The analysis concerned the global stability of the loop and the research of stability has been done using the second Lyapunov method.

CIRCUITS FOR WIRELESS ENERGY TRANSFER

Summary. Analysis and comparison of characteristics of basic circuits used in wireless energy transfer via magnetically coupled coils are presented in the paper. Analytical general solutions for the minimum normalized average energy accumulated in a magnetic field of the coils and for the maximum transfer efficiency of the circuits are provided. Additionally, equations for calculating the average energy, transfer efficiency and transferred power are given. As a result of the presented analysis, the algorithm of the optimum design of the circuits for wireless energy transfer is proposed.

CIRCUITS FOR WIRELESS ENERGY TRANSFER – LABORATORY TESTS

Summary. Comparison of measurement and calculation results of efficiency of a series-series circuit used in wireless energy transfer via magnetically coupled coils is presented in the paper. The experimental verification confirmed the analytic expression for the circuit efficiency. The verification was done by measuring, calculating and comparing efficiency characteristics as a function of the load resistance and output capacitance at the fixed frequency of the supply voltage source. The laboratory setup and measurement method of the circuit efficiency is also explained in the paper.
