SELECTED METHODS OF ELIMINATION OF HIGHER HARMONICS IN POWER SYSTEM VOLTAGE AND CURRENT WAVEFORMS – PART I

Summary. Problems of power quality, including methods of elimination of higher harmonics in power system voltage and current waveforms, have been considered in the paper. Authors have presented results of research related to active power filters, control methods and methods used to improve a dynamical behaviour of these devices. Theoretical results are complemented by simulations and laboratory tests.

SELECTED STABILITY EXAMINATION METHODS OF LTV SYSTEMS

Summary. In this article the stability analysis of first order parametric filters with time variable coefficient has been carried out. The stability areas of LTV systems have been determined using e-stability examination and short-time stability methods. Using the generalized eigenvalues method it has also been shown that if the parametric functions are strictly positive the considered LTV filters are BIBO stable.

EXTRACTION AND SEPARATION OF SELECTED GAS FROM OIL ENVIRONMENT USING PTFE MEMBRANES

Summary. The article presents research results on composite membrane materials covered with a polymer polytetrafluoroethylene layer (PTFE). Studies concerned use and optimization of semi-permeable PTFE membranes for the separation of selected gases (H₂ and CH₄) emitted from the oil environment during exploitation or power transformers damages. Part of the experimental studies has been related to chemical composition of the membranes (XRF X-ray fluorescence analysis, Raman spectroscopy), their internal structure (optical microscopy) and surface morphology (AFM and confocal microscopy). In addition, values of: permeability, efficiency and selectivity have been determined. Results of studies show that: (a) membranes are made of a support layer (glass fibers with calcium Ca) and the active layer (PTFE) applied by different technologies, (b) PTFE has a high ability to extract hydrogen and light hydrocarbons from the oil. Its selectivity can be controlled to some extent by a proper support layer development and membrane thickness selection.

GENERALISED FREQUENCY DOMAIN DISTORTION MEASURES FOR SYSTEMS OF LTI FILTER – DECIMATOR/INTERPOLATOR CLASS

Summary. The paper proposes a generalization of the frequency domain distortion measures (amplitude, phase nonlinearity and interband aliasing) for systems belong to an LTI-decymator/interpolator class which is a subclass of LTV systems. By using the specific properties of LTI-decymator/interpolator class system, which are: the periodicity of the impulse response and the ability to obtain a so-called “reduced form”, it was possible to define the distortion measures in the same way as it is possible for the LTI systems. This allows to use a similar mathematical methods to evaluate the quality of the filters and also allows to interpret the results in a similar way, what was shown in exemplary evaluation of a wavelet multiband filtering system of EEG signal.

ELECTROMAGNETIC PARAMETER ESTIMATION OF SYNCHRONOUS GENERATORS

Summary. In the paper there are presented the methods and tools aiding the process of measurement determination of reliable values of mathematical model parameters of generating unit component elements, in particular synchronous generators. They have been developed by the team of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology working on this subject. Special measurement tests are the basis of determining the parameters. They can be made in the normal operation of generating units when the magnetic cores of electrical machines are saturated and the voltage regulators can reach the limits. There are also presented the exemplary results of parameter estimation of synchronous generator mathematical models obtained from the tests and investigations performed in the power plants operating in the Polish Power System.

THIRD-ORDER QUADRATURE OSCILLATOR OF THE NON-LINEAR ELEMENT STABILIZED

Summary. In this paper a structure of the third order oscillator built with an operational amplifier, a low pass filter, an integrator and a non-linear circuit as a voltage limiter is presented. All is connected in a closed loop circuit. Properties of the oscillator are tested through simulations, in which the describing function method is used. The equations defining the amplitude and the pulsation of oscillation are given. Also implementation of the oscillator containing the low pass filter RLC and RC and the second order capacity D is shown. Finally the computer simulations of the oscillator RLD for ideal and real operational amplifiers are presented.
