Ladies and Gentlemen,
The jubilee of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering approaches. The Faculty was founded in 1945, as one of the first four faculties of the Silesian University of Technology. This anniversary is an opportunity to summarize the changes that have occurred in the scientific, research and teaching activities at the Faculty.
Since the inception of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering the studies in Electrical Engineering were carried out. Following the changing market requirements and expectations of employers, in 1995 the Faculty opened a new direction: Electronics and Telecommunications, and in 2008 were launched two courses of study: Mechatronics and Computer Science. Since 2013 students have an opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge in the direction of Power engineering.
With the advent of the twenty-first century, when the Bologna Declaration has consolidated European higher education, the studies are conducted in a three-tier mode, as engineering studies, master's and doctoral programs. Currently, five courses of study to more than 2,000 students, both in full-time and extramural forms are carried out. The graduates of Faculty of Electrical Engineering are sought by employers.
At present the Faculty employs 30 professors and associate professors and 85 doctors. Council of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has the right to confer doctoral degrees in the disciplines of electrical engineering and electronics and telecommunications, as well as a D.Sc. degree in technical sciences in the discipline of electrical engineering.
The scope of research conducted at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is closely correlated with the needs of industry. The Faculty leads research collaboration with dozens of universities located in all continents, as well as with Polish and foreign industry companies. The Faculty has a modern research and teaching infrastructure, which consists of more than 60 specialized laboratories, multimedia lecture halls and classrooms as well as seminar rooms. For nearly 70 years Faculty of Electrical Engineering maintains a high position both in teaching and research, as confirmed by Polish Accreditation Commission assessment and evidenced by the numerous awards granted to employees of the faculty.
I cordially invite all Employees, Students, Alumni and Friends of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering to the anniversary celebrations and special events that will begin with the solemn inauguration of the 70-th Jubilee of the Academic Year 2014/2015.
Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering
Professor Paweł Sowa, Ph.D., D.Sc., EEng.
